The Lyons Moves to Broadway Next Week

30 Mar

With previews beginning on April 5, The Lyons will look to successfully make the leap to Broadway from Off-Broadway.

Linda Lavin stars as the matriarch of the dysfunctional Lyons family, her husband is terminally ill, her son is involved in a questionable relationship and her daughter is having difficulty dealing with it all.

Both humorous and touching, The Lyons deals with something most of us can all relate to – relatives and the complicated dealings among them.

With the whole family resistant to being close but still afraid of being alone, the impending death of Ben Lyons may serve as the bonding event that brings this family together at last.

The Lyons on Broadway is expected to be a popular play based upon the strong showing it made Off-Broadway.

See The Lyons on Broadway at the Cort Theatre. The Cort Theatre is located at 138 West 48th Street, New York, NY.

Catch it during previews or when the show officially opens, currently scheduled for April 23, 2012.

The Best Man Opening on Broadway

25 Jan

Gore Vidal’s The Best Man, in 1964 made into a film starring Henry Fonda, is coming to Broadway. Previews begin on March 6th and Opening Night is April 1st but don’t let that date “fool” you, this play is going to be excellent.

Absolutely loaded with an unbelievable cast of talented, veteran actors, The Best Man is destined to be a major Broadway hit. Dealing with politics in an election year also does not hurt.

Just a few cast member names for you to process: Candice Bergen, John Larroquette, James Earl Jones and Angela Lansbury. Just one of those stars would make a show interesting but all four of them?! It is no wonder this is one of the most talked about Broadway shows opening up this year.

The Best Man revolves around two rival political figures who cannot stand each other. The two characters are competing for the presidential nomination of an unspecified political party and both have skeletons in their closet that could bring their aspirations to a grinding halt.

What unfolds and how this all plays out? You’ll just have to find out for yourself.

With such a star-studded cast, it is expected demand to see The Best Man is going to be very high. As a result, the best time to order The Best Man tickets is ‘as soon as possible’ so you’re not on the outside looking in!

William Shatner to Star in One Man Broadway Show

20 Jan

Not quite boldly going where no man has gone before but a bold move nonetheless, dynamic personality and acting star William Shatner is going to star in a one man Broadway show entitled “Shatner’s World: We All Just Live In It.” The show starts in February at New York’s Music Box Theatre.

William Shatner has had countless starring roles in his over 50 years of acting. While his style is often mocked, it cannot be argued that he has been a tremendous success for whatever reason and his endearing personality and willingness to laugh at himself has served him well over the years.

Most famous for his starring role as Captain James T. Kirk in the legendary sci-fi series “Star Trek”, Shatner got loads of laughs from a Saturday Night Live skit in which he made fun of “Trekkies”, the intensely devoted fans of Star Trek.

His comedic skills were on display once again in the show “Boston Legal” as he played aging lawyer Denny Crane.

This one man Broadway show is going to be Shatner’s take on his life and career, pretty much anything goes! Who knows, maybe he’ll sing a song or two as he has been known to do, he does have a few record albums on his extensive resume as well.

The Music Box Theatre is located at 239 West 45th Street in Manhattan, the first show is scheduled for February 17.

Find Shatner’s World tickets today and see this limited run show before it is no longer on Broadway.

Dolly Parton Working on Broadway Musical

28 Dec

Dolly Parton, one of if not the most successful woman in country music, is reportedly working on an auto-biographical Broadway musical. The show will not star Dolly Parton but she plans on writing all the music and the story.

Broadway fans may recall Parton’s first journey into Broadway musicals didn’t fare as well as hoped, “9 to 5″ ended after a four month run. But if there is anything Dolly Parton has proven in her life is that when she wants something, she keeps working until she gets it and then keeps working to keep it. So you can bet she will conquer Broadway just as she conquered Nashville many years ago and then Hollywood with her successful acting career as well.

In January Parton will be starring in a new film with Queen Latifah called “Joyful Noise”. The movie is about two choir singers who have differing opinions on how to win the National Choir Competition. Is this is another project that perhaps could become a Broadway show someday? We’ll have to wait and see but don’t count anything out!
